Fucking EllaâI snort. Now Jillieâs got me saying it. Ellen needs to quit with this hanging on me shit. I told her, multiple times, Iâm with Jillie. I wonât be her bodyguard anymore, her fake boyfriendâthough I never saw it like that.
âYou need to respect what I said, or we canât be friends anymore. Understand?â I tell her.
Her face is red as she pulls herself up off the ground next to the chair. I threw her off, she fell. I wonât apologize.
Now I see the anger take over for embarrassment. I grab her upper arm before she runs off and starts some shit.
âGet over it, Ellen. I mean it. Iâve done enough for you.â
âFine,â she seethes, pulling her arm out of my hand, then turns. When she does, her face goes hard, her lips press tightly together.
Oh hell.
I look to see what she sees, and my heart soars up into my throat. I canât stop the grin that overtakes my faceâthat is, until I get up close. I can see sheâs been crying. Jillieâs not a pretty crier.
âWhatâs wrong, baby?â I pull her to me.
âElla played a little trick, didnât you bitchface?â Audrey declares.
âWhat?â I ask, then look down at Jillie.
Jillie sighs. âI was going to surprise you, she must have seen me, so she made sure I saw her hanging all over you.â
I look to Ellen whoâs standing there looking at her nails as if sheâs bored.
âThatâs it, Ellen. No more. You pull one more stunt, and Iâll have a discussion with your parents that I should have had already,â I threaten. She doesnât look so bored now. She looks very, very scared.
âLeo,â she whispers.
âYou heard me. Cut the shit.â
Her friends surround her with looks of anger.
Jillie steps around me. âIt didnât have to be this way.â
Ellen walks up to Jillie, nearly in her face, âOh yes, it did.â
With that, Ellen and her friends leave.
âWell, thatâs exactly the kind of welcome home I was expecting from Ella,â Jillie says.
Audrey sneers. âI imagine weâll need to be on guard now. That exit was less-than-friendly.â
âI warned her. Iâll do what I have to do if she keeps up her shit. Iâm tired of this,â I admit.
Jillie hugs me. âSurprise!â
I let out a laugh as do the others around us.
âWelcome home, Jillie,â I whisper into her hair. âIâm so glad you came back early.â
âIâm not sure if I should be or not,â she tells me honestly.
Isla pokes Jillie in the shoulder. âDonât you dare let her ruin your surprise, and donât you dare be afraid of her. Iâm not. Whatâs the worst she can do?â
I sigh. I wish she hadnât asked that question. It usually jinxes things.
